Real Estate Leaders Advocate for Water Quality

As warmer weather approaches and concerns of another toxic algal bloom arise, real estate leaders from the Realtors® of the Palm Beaches and Greater Fort Lauderdale (RAPB + GFLR) continue to advocate for water quality.

Over the past month, the leaders attended and spoke on behalf of 33,000 Realtor® members and MLS subscribers at numerous U.S. Army Corps of Engineers public scoping meetings in Broward, Palm Beach, and Martin Counties. The purpose of the meetings were to gather public comment on the development of the Lake Okeechobee System Operating Manual (LOSOM).

“We’ve been testifying locally at regional U.S. Army Corps of Engineers meetings, and in a couple of weeks, we will travel to Tallahassee to advocate for additional funding for both Everglades restoration and beach restoration, along with legislation encouraging septic to sewer conversions,” said Jarrod Lowe, RAPB + GFLR President Elect.

The RAPB + GFLR leadership team will travel to Tallahassee on March 18-20th for Great American Realtors® Days during the 2019 Florida Legislative Session. They will meet with State Senators and Representatives to advocate for water quality, as well as full funding of the State and Local Housing Trust Fund and a solution to the rampant assignment of benefits abuse. Great American Realtor® Days is a prime opportunity for Realtors® to advocate for their community and keep state legislators informed about issues that can negatively impact homeownership and property investment in Florida.
