Realtor® Party Update: My Safe Florida Home Program

The My Safe Florida Program received more funding that was recently made available for applicants earlier this month. Realtors® around the State know the importance of effectively hurricane-proofing homes. Safety and affordability are paramount concerns for the Realtor® Party, so one of their initiatives has been the My Safe Florida program. The program assists thousands of homeowners in hurricane preparedness and cost savings.

With tropical weather year-round, simple and affordable measures like having your client dry-proof their home or install sewer backfire pipes can help when floodwaters come in. This program allows homeowners to choose any certified Florida State contractor to help improve their homes and manage their work, leading to more options and favorable pricing.

The program received an additional $200 million in a recent legislative session and other changes to make the program more accessible. The Realtor® Party has been able to set focus on this initiative to help allow the community to apply for a matching grant, in which the state provides an additional dollar to match the total cost of the project up to $10,000.

There is a new application process using a tiered approach for equal opportunities. It starts with applying for a mitigation grant, which entails your client sharing the report with their insurance carrier. This allows them to receive discounts on their home insurance premium and then get additional discounts and show methods for property improvements to help strengthen their homes. Ensuring that your client’s homes can withstand the storm is important, so My Safe Florida Home recommends receiving an inspection report, including an assessment of the roof, structures, and pending protections.

This is an opportunity for Realtors® to give homeowners the knowledge to gain access to a great opportunity and harden their homes while saving money.  Learn more about the program by visiting mysafeflhome.com
