Broward County Vice-Mayor Declares ‘Realtor® Unity and Advocacy Day’

Broward County has a new day! Broward County Vice Mayor Dale Holness declared October 30th as Realtor® Unity and Advocacy Day in Broward County. The news was announced at the Realtors® of the Palm Beaches and Greater Fort Lauderdale’s (RAPB + GFLR) Annual Mayors Breakfast and Municipal Expo on Wednesday, October 30th. The breakfast was hosted at the Renaissance Hotel in Plantation for over 300 attendees.

Over two years ago, Broward County’s oldest and largest Realtor® association, the Greater Fort Lauderdale Realtors®, in its 96th year of service and leadership, merged with the neighboring Realtors® of the Palm Beaches. This merger created RAPB + GFLR, the 3rd largest local Realtor® association in the nation, consisting of over 33,000 real estate professionals.

In the summer of 2019, the combined association furthered the real estate profession in Broward County by conducting a merger with the South Broward Board of Realtors®. This created a united advocacy for the Broward County territory and enhanced the association’s public policy advocacy efforts, community relationships, and partnerships in all of Broward County’s 31 municipalities.

All of Broward County’s 1.95 million residents benefit from RAPB + GFLR’s advocacy efforts on behalf of housing, homeownership, stronger communities, and private property rights. The new unified association with the South Broward Board of Realtors® spans 130 miles of coastline, covering over 70 municipalities.

RAPB + GFLR planned the Mayor’s Breakfast to help Realtors® receive the updates they need about their area to properly advise local consumers. During the breakfast, a discussion and forum was held that featured 26 Broward County municipalities. Remarks were made by Broward County Property Appraiser Marty Kiar and Commissioner Michael Udine. The discussions focused around the newest projects and initiatives that will usher in future change to the area.

Attendees had the chance to meet with mayors and city officials prior to the breakfast on the expo floor. This event was a great opportunity for every municipality in Broward County to promote and highlight its strengths and benefits and address the issues impacting each community.

Twenty-six mayors participated in the breakfast and forum, including Cooper City Mayor Greg Ross, Coconut Creek Mayor Sandra Welch, Coral Springs Mayor Scott Brook, Dania Beach Mayor Lori Lewellen, Davie Vice Mayor Caryl Hattan, Deerfield Beach Mayor Bill Ganz, Hallandale Beach Vice Mayor Sabrina Javellana, Hollywood Vice Mayor Traci Callari, Lauderdale-by-the-Sea Mayor Chris Vincent, Lauderdale Lakes Mayor Hazelle Rogers, Lauderhill Mayor Ken Thurston, Lighthouse Point Commission Vice President Michael Long, Margate Mayor Anthony Caggiano, Miramar Mayor Wayne Messam, North Lauderdale Mayor Ana Ziade, Oakland Park Vice Mayor Matthew Sparks, Parkland Mayor Christine Hunchofsky, Pembroke Park Mayor Ashira Mohammed, Pembroke Pines Mayor Frank Ortis, Plantation Mayor Lynn Stoner, Pompano Beach Mayor Rex Hardin, Sunrise Mayor Michael Ryan, Tamarac Mayor Michelle Gomez, West Park Vice Mayor Brian Johnson, and Weston Mayor Daniel Stermer.
